My wife and I likely have it too. She is pretty dang sick honestly, where I have slight sniffles and lost my ability to smell and taste as of this past Saturday morning. I'm interested to see what the test results say but I won't have those for a few days yet.
While I ain't afraid of the shanghai shivers, I did get it. The most alarming thing (beyond being a little out of breath going up the stairs) was the utter loss of sense of smell and taste. It was really disconcerting to stick my nose in a bag of jalapeno chips and literally smell nothing whatsoever.
My biggest fear was that it would never come back, and eating food that you can't taste is actually somewhat akin to a kind of torture. It really fucks with you.
It took about a week, and I would say it's about 50% back now (I can taste food, but not highly nuanced flavors) so that fear is abating.
I just wanted to say that it is real, but you'll survive it.
An older friend of mine now has heart trouble and difficulty getting up stairs - although his senses of smell and taste did return.
He still thinks everyone's sufferring a group case of vaginitis.
I've read this all over the place, that some people have "long lasting" or possibly permanent other health effects afterwards. But I'm skeptical, not that they develop these issues, but that maybe these people are just unhealthy to begin with, or even have undiagnosed but ignored issues, and then when you get a bad flu it exacerbates or "reveals" your underlying conditions, like ripping off a bandaid and exposing a wound. You said your friend is older. Was he in poor health beforehand? Maybe he has had trouble getting up stairs for a while but just never paid any attention to it. Your thoughts?

2 people in my direct circle got it, 1 had a fever for a few hours, the other just had the flu. Haven't asked about sense of smell/taste, but they didn't mention it either.
The loss of smell and taste was the big indicator for me. I didn't have a fever and wasn't coughing that much, I was only tired and freezing. I had it really early on. My brother started getting sick the same day NY shut the restaurants down, and myself a day or so after that, so at the time I doubted it was corona because everyone was saying cough and fever, and I didn't have either.
A friend reported the same. He said it was like a sinus infection plus no taste\smell. That was about a month ago. He's back to normal. His wife and kids never got it from him or never presented symptoms
Yeah, it felt like a sinus infection that simultaneously gave me bronchitis- (at least the cough was somewhat productive) and took my sense of smell / taste. I really can’t overstate how peculiar that aspect of it was; apparently COVID attacks the nerve that goes to the olfactory bulbs, so you’re actually waiting for neurogenesis to actually regenerate the neural connection, hence why it comes back slowly.
To me, that feels like the most nefarious aspect of this virus; it actually causes lasting damage that I assume the elderly lack the capability to heal from.

When the reality is that there has never even been a vaccine for any type of corona virus in history. I'm with you -- not an antivaxxer but something doesn't feel quite right. The companies that have come out with these vaccines also specialize in cancer research and "cancer vaccines", and the pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer and J&J etc. make a FORTUNE off cancer medication and treatment.
At risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist, a part of me wonders if these coronavirus vaccines will cause a small portion of the population to develop long term cancer. Nobody would ever be able to prove it definitively, and it would be great for Big Pharma's coffers to have more cancer patients. Scary to think about, even though I have no real evidence to back up my claim.

just wanted to say, my wife and I (both in our 60's) had this a few weeks ago. not that everyone will be the same, they won't, but it was like having the flu with one notable exception. the taste thing. couldn't get ANY food past my lips as everything tasted absolutely horrible. we were sick for about a week. I've had the flu a few times over the years and just like then, I felt like I got hit by a truck for a few days but then it passed. I also passed it on to a few friends, neither of them got sick, and had very minor symptoms.
