The thing about the school environment for socializing is I believe over rated. When you think about how many of your fellow students you really liked and wanted to be friends with, most people find the number much lower than they thought it would be. Children don't need a hundred friends, just three or four good ones is enough.

I agree. 3 or 4 good friends through school that you can still be friends with after college is not very common. I’m so thankful to God that He blessed me with great friends because it wasn’t always like that when I was in elementary school. However, being a third grade teacher, I see the importance of teaching kids how to interact with one another and socialize. I do a lot of group work with my class, and it is an unbelievable amount of work to teach kids how to work with one another. I actually, to some extent, think that’s more important than the curriculum I’m teaching them. They have to know how to talk and treat each other when they grow up and become adults.
