I don't think Reagan knew what he was getting into.
Trump did.
I try not to make excuses for every single thing that appeared to be wrong with the Reagan Administration. I loved the guy, but he's also a human being with flaws like the rest of us (I don't admit that to liberal trash of course). That being said, he couldn't have known about any of the Deep State's plans nor was he aware of the vile scumbag George HW Bush's plans.
Also, I don't think the Deep State was all that thrilled with the demise of the USSR. They were the perfect boogeyman to blow billions of dollars on the military. That spending wasn't to make the military better and stronger of course, but to line their pockets.
HW Bush clearly had a plan to shift the attention to the Middle East after the USSR collapsed. It was a lifeline for the Deep State. They knew they could make an endless war happen there.
HW Bush also kicked off globalism via NAFTA.
I have myself convinced that Bush didn't want a second term. I think he set up his minions for the 12 years he was in DC. He was friends with Bill Clinton before the 1992 election. Clinton was always into shady shit and was probably easy to blackmail (I could hear him say "heh heh blackmail! No need for that! Pay me and my wife and we'll do anything! heh heh).
Bush took a 90% approval rating into the '92 election and still managed to lose to Bill. People often blame Perot for Bush losing, but I honestly think Bush just let Perot build his support knowing that it'd impact him more than Clinton. Bush ran that campaign poorly. You could tell how he was bored with the job (recall the "watch checking" attack by the media during the debate).
Anyway, sorry for the rambling ... I'm simply hoping that we learn more details about the history of this Deep State in the coming years. It pisses me off that almost every politician I supported since I turned 18 has been a complete fucking scumbag (though I don't think Bob Dole is one of them). I'd love to know when they switched.
