Personally I am of the school of thought that Watergate was the Deep State’s plan to get rid of Nixon without killing him because they saw how when they killed Kennedy how he was canonized as an American saint right away. They did Watergate because they decided to kill Nixon’s legacy which was worse than killing the man. If you actually look at Nixon’s presidency he was pretty damn good. But nobody remembers him ending Vietnam or being the first president to speak with China, everyone remembers Watergate. As for Jack Kennedy, everyone remembers him dying for his country and says “fuck it” to the drugs and affairs.

i think CIA couldn't kill Nixon because Nixon knew something about the CIA involvement in JFK's assassination. Nixon threatened DCIA Richard Helms with "that Bay of Pigs thing" going public if Helms didn't make CIA help Nixon defeat the growing Watergate scandal by taking the sole blame for the buglary. if CIA had said "that was our op, it's national security", then FBI would never have started investigating, and Nixon would have finished his term.
instead Richard Helms blew his stack in the oval office and cussed out Nixon.
