in 1988 there was a tour with VH, Dokken, Scorpions and Metallica, in our city it was 2 days. The bands stayed at one of our bigger hotels. No one was allowed in.
Our guitar players girlfriend was a bartender in this hotel so we got in. I was sitting at the bar Next to James Hetfield. This kid, maybe 14 or 15 came up behind us as we were talking. James was wearing the Smirnoff shirt that was on the cover of kill 'em all. We turn around and the kid asked him for an autograph. The kid is wearing a Metallica concert shirt. James had never seen before, James asked where he got this shirt. The kid responds something like christmas or Birthday his parents got it for him. James say "I'll trade you shirts" lol The kid says "No!"
At this point it was just funny, I said you do know that shirt is from the cover of kill 'em all! The kid says, "But, I like my shirt, can I have an autograph?" James says, "No" and turns back around. I thought the kid was gonna cry. I nudged James who was kinda hiding a smile, and then signs the autograph. Hilarious...back when James wasn't a prick...
