One of the things wrong with our country is allowing people who currently hold an office to campaign for another office.
Current office holders should be the last people considered for any office while there are millions of patriotic citizens who could fill those positions.
Obama resigned November 16, 2008 to become president.
Biden resigned January 15, 2009 to become VP.
So this really isn't that odd for a VP to wait until closer to the inauguration to actually resign. McCain conceded on Nov.4th at 11:20pm EST, so election night wasn't even over before a victor was formally declared, and it still took until January for the VP to resign his senate seat.
