Do more than ask. They will just deny

Strike_Eagle784 193 points ago +198 / -5 (edited)

At least if they lie, they can be charged for lying to a Senate Committee.

Edit: Got a lot of replies, can't reply to all of them. I understand the concern about possibly no results occurring as a result of the hearings, but since none of us have a crystal ball, we can't assume the outcome. Let's wait until after the hearings to see what happens. One pede was right though, they may not necessary get in trouble if there isn't an oath being administered to ensure honesty.

They only charge wealthy elites when you go against their tide. Such as Nxum or whatever the eff that was and them buying their kids into prestigious schools when it turns out everyone does it. You think Harvard and Yale are really tough schools? Wealthy elites get into them because of the money and study business which they have been groomed for their entire life

Blame the DoJ not the ones talking about it.

2
randomusename 2 points ago +3 / -1

Bullshit, if they think this will show fb is not a platform they can subpoena all the info they want and fb has to produce. At a minimum it would make life miserable for tech

As announced in Wilkinson v. United States (1961),[13] a Congressional committee must meet three requirements for its subpoenas to be "legally sufficient." First, the committee's investigation of the broad subject area must be authorized by its chamber; second, the investigation must pursue "a valid legislative purpose" but does not need to involve legislation and does not need to specify the ultimate intent of Congress; and third, the specific inquiries must be pertinent to the subject matter area that has been authorized for investigation.

2
Wtf_socialismreally 2 points ago +3 / -1

Legislature actually writes the laws, I'm just saying

4
fjobb 4 points ago +4 / -0

Ya writes them, not enforces them. That falls to the DoJ.

4
Wtf_socialismreally 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yes. But this censorship issue stems from not having a law strong enough to force it to stop; they can write that.

3
fjobb 3 points ago +3 / -0

True for sure. I still think blaming the few who are at least calling it out is not a smart strategy. A few guys alone are not going to get significant laws passed, Its not like Hawley can just make a law himself. Its not like Gaetz can just pass laws himself. There are others that seem to see the problem but not many. There has to be more pressure on the rest who are doing nothing.

1
Wtf_socialismreally 1 point ago +1 / -0

I agree, blaming the people trying to expose it is not a great strategy.

I just think that if the law is complex enough that the DoJ hesitates on prosecuting it, then a new law should be written that is clear and concise: social media platforms are not allowed to censor free speech, only literal terrorists deemed so by the government.

1
doodaddy 1 point ago +1 / -0

gotta wonder why the legislature is always having these meetings then. Why not have the DOJ on cspan? Or the executive branch? Why don't they subpoena people and drill them on TV?

1
CannonballJunior 1 point ago +1 / -0

While you're blaming the DOJ, how about some nice bagpipe music?

[Redpill} When congress does it, it's fundraising and/or grandstanding, bc Congress is the legislative branch, not the judicial or executive.

It's been coordinated for years, we've know this. I've wrote how to stop it it in my How the WH Council's office could write a strictly-Constitutional E.O. for President Trump to sign, which would basically immediately end all censorship. going back what 2+ years on TDspezdit.

11
TexasPiper 11 points ago +11 / -0

The problem is they likely have plausible deniability. They don’t know who is actually running the program what it’s called and so on.

8
Wtf_socialismreally 8 points ago +8 / -0

We should start rejecting that. Plausible deniability shouldn't exist for stuff like this.

We have so many examples of coordination and censorship that they would have known by now and stopped it if they weren't involved.

Instead, they're doubling down.

8
AngryAsian 8 points ago +8 / -0

That's the issue with today's rules, if you're the CEO, it's your damn job to know

8
aaafirefly123 8 points ago +8 / -0

It’s not that they don’t know, it’s that they don’t want to know.

They could easily find out who is ordering the censorship, but they won’t because then they have to stop it, by being “ignorant” of it they are effectively allowed to pretend to have no control.

2
Centipede420 2 points ago +2 / -0

Congress can ask for all info regarding it in a subpoena. They can be justified as to see if fb is a platform under 230.

Lets not give the do nothings in Congress an excuse. They are too scared to cross big tech and be platformed banned.

2
SvixGale 2 points ago +2 / -0

They can plausibly deny a 7.62.

Tell it to the rifle.

2
artifex_mundi_x 2 points ago +2 / -0

"Plausible deniability".

Apparently.

3

9
GEOTUSMAGA 9 points ago +10 / -1

"Do you prefer firing squad, gallows or electric chair?"

5
trumpORbust 5 points ago +5 / -0

"Why you hate America"

'Are you a bitch-boy?'

WTF is your problem

Best -->. Right now, on official congressional record, make a decoration if your company is a publisher or a platform, with respect to section 302

1
HunterBidensPC 1 point ago +1 / -0

Question employees for election interference, they'll start talking.

12
catsfive 12 points ago +12 / -0

Once Trump is inaugurated, that's exactly what he's going to do. BANK on it.

2
SvixGale 2 points ago +2 / -0

I mean; I've been hearing people talking again about Trump's 2018 EO regarding election meddling....

It flitted into my head for a moment; what if Trump used that EO to seize the assets of even 1 or 2 of these companies (hello FB) and gave it out to the taxpayers?

Trump has a verrrrrrry long & well-documented record of extreme generosity.

I have no basis for this other than like I said; a random thought that popped into my head, but hey.....we can dream..... :-D

32
RussianBot9000 32 points ago +32 / -0

Don't ask the question unless you have proof of the truth. When they deny, arrest them for lying under oath to Congress

2
