Cant decide what barrel length to go with on my first AR build And AR in general
Any insight or preference you guys have? Been seeing a lot of SBR hype but Open for whatever. For home defense and occasional range use.

Velocity. Stick with standard 16” barrel. Buy something else later to play around with. In the run up to Obama my first money saving rifle was a complete lower I bought from Stag Arms matched to a group buy complete Stag Arms upper I bought thru the AR15.com site. Upper on Lower, push two pins and viola, $739 complete Stag Arms AR15. Box of Pmags and I was set. Still shoots minute of bad guy at 100 yds.
Nice I’ll check them out. Was looking at PSA kits earlier
Main thing is to get something before the supply dries up. Look at gundeals.com but PSA is good to go. Bought a lot of ammo from them. Watch Black Friday sales and strike quick.
Hopefully they have BF deals. I feel like they can get away with markups now bc of demand. 223/556 might be hard to find too. Ammoseek is usually good but I get 22lr. If I can find it it’ll prob be expensive as hell :(
16"
Man I was thinking everyone was gonna recommend a 10.5. Unexpectedly 16 is being recommended.
Any particular reason why u like the 16 over 10.5?
SBR will be put under NFA soon go with 16
Makes me want it even more haha. What if I lose it in a boating accident? Or they don’t know about it in the first place ;)
SBR (under 16in) is mostly good for pistol calibers, where the round isn't loaded with more powder than can be burned in the shorter barrel. Also useful for 300BLK, or if you absolutely MUST use the AR in tight quarters and don't need to worry much about ranges past 100m.
I would go with a 10.5" pistol for HD.
16'' with 1/8 twist.
