Look unions were good and without them things would be alot worse, but since industrial relations have become a thing unions have lost alot of power and have given into corporations just to secure work for their constituents. For example I knew a rail road worker who's union rep got them an extra .50c an hour to work in the rain, problem is he used to just get paid to sit in a shed and talk shit with the boys when it was raining and got paid anyway, classic case of a union rep actively working against the best interest of his constituents but thinking he did a good job anyway.
We have freedom of association on job sites here, so if your union or not you get the EBA rate. I'm actually on a individual work place agreement so negotiate my rate myself and the rest I governed by the award unless better conditions are offered or negotiated.
