Most attorneys (barring public interest, non profit, etc.) make money by the simple concept of billable hours. That translates to I charge X amount per hour, and I bill by the 10th of an hour. Every 6 minutes is a 10th of an hour, and every second above that 6 minutes for work I do is another 10th of an hour. Glance at a text? That's a .1. Talk to you for seven minutes? That's a .2, etc.
That may not seem like much, but most courts have found it ethical for attorneys to charge pretty crazy hourly rates. $420 an hour for family law cases, and others charge thousands per hour for more high profile cases. And if you are doing anything, and I mean anything work related, you bill for it. For every time one of Trump's attorneys are making TV or media experiences, they are running the clock for travel, case review prior to the appearance, travel back home, taking notes, etc.
I was recently appalled by one of Trump's attorneys who filed an appeal in Michigan. The guy failed to file the most basic documents supporting an appeal and got his appeal kicked (though he can refile). There is no way someone gets through law school and gets to be a prominent attorney as he is without knowing that at the very least, you file the underlying judgment that you are appealing along with your request for appeal.
Now, many have jumped to the conclusion that the attorney is dumb or doesn't know the rules, but after some research on the guy, who happens to live in the city I just moved out of (St. Louis), I know that he is a fairly well respected attorney who has filed many appeals.
So why the deficiencies? Why get your appeal kicked? Easy, more billable hours. This guy billed god knows how many hours into Trump's legal defense fund and he knows he's getting paid. The Trump campaign is too busy dealing with big picture issues than to focus in on one of their many attorneys. This guy is banking on the fact that Trump will lose, and that all the shitty legal work he did will just be buried. And that's just one guy.
Then I see his other attorneys posting cryptic "Tick Tock" messages on Twitter, promising day after day that something is coming, while not producing actual, hard evidence. Why? They are billing. The longer they can drag this out the longer they can bill.
There's been a lot of talk here about good evidence, yet none of it seems to be presented in court. Why? These lawyers don't want to resolve this case, they want to drag it out, and they don't care about the outcome. They would rather Trump lose because of their negligence than see Trump win a swift, evidence based case.
So beware, and this is coming from someone who is an attorney, on what is in store for us.
"I guarantee you no lawyer wants to besmirch his own legal reputation just to make a few extra bucks."
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
😂
He laughed next to his plaintiff’s attorney and stacks of money
