I had a guitar teacher when I was a kid. He said most people learn how to play guitar for about 6 months. Then, it gets harder to learn, so they buy a new pedal so their playing sounds new and fresh. After that gets old they get a new pedal.
Obviously that’s not true for everyone. Plenty of great players doing amazing things with their pedal boards, but I’ve been basically amp only about 90% of the time.
I had ANOTHER guitar teacher in college who told me all her good students came in and turned the amps down and all her bad players blasted her out. So, basically, based on that comment you’re probably pretty good. 😂
$300 can get me a decent used drum kit or all-tube head, a Mexican Strat, Jazz Bass or a pre-2002 Epiphone, or 5/6 used Boss stompboxes if I didn't want to just use the effects on my phone. If I need more "dirt" I just hike the gain knob
