At one time it was all the USSR and everyone happily got along fine until one day the USSR broke up and everyone was left to fend for themselves. That whole region is such a mess.. The Ukrainians can fend for themselves, if they are righteous they will be helped by Hungary and Poland and others.. their actual neighbors.
Everyone I have ever met from Israel, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Romania, Armenia...etc.. they ALL speak Russian. If they really hated Russia so much they would stop speaking Russian.. but they can't/won't because it's now ingrained in their culture.
