What would it take to make a stand-alone, american made, voting system? I've been pondering the idea for the last few days.
I think it would require a) lots of hardware, b) systems with no networking capacity, c) a method to pull encrypted vote tallies from the systems via USB sentinal/rainbow keys, d) a tally system deployed per voting center which can receive the USB keys and tally and submit the votes, and finally e) open source code which everyone can see, and since the systems are air gapped the high bar to hack them would be set.
Alternatively, we can go back to paper, and vote counters from each party, which also works.
Yea... Super awesome.
