I live near Harrison, AR... the supposed "home of the KKK".
Somewhat infamously, a "furry facebook group" (dear God) held a get-together in Harrison a while back, and it drew a surprising crowd of about 80-100 people and made the local community groups and such chuckle a bit, but mostly the reception was warm and even the older folks were glad that these kids felt comfortable to do their own thing there.
It wasn't the furries that were mocked (ok a LITTLE bit), but it was the fact that the supposedly nation-wide terror of the KKK can't even get enough people to put two tables together in the back room of the Denny's, but the furries can fill a park.
