Not quite the same situation, but it is just a point that if the war is predominantly about ideology, then expect there to be a serious split. That said, not a single one of them seem to have continued that warrior spirit past discharge....
I think that you are close to the mark. The bigger question is more about top brass for me. If we have 70 of the grunts, but the guys who control access to the armories and big hardware are not with us, then that gets bad real fast.
Again as a student of history, 700,000 civilians with rifles against 300,000 infantrymen with rifles and we win. Yeah, I've noticed this, just from knowing a lot of military (just from friends, family, and a former job I used to have that was more skilled trade/blue collar) that are more on our side. I tend to make friends w/ military/veterans easiest, for whatever reason (because I'm not military), so I know a ton from the aforementioned, but then also know a ton from academia. I've been, in some capacity, in the academy for about 15 years now, and have met a ton of military here. Young and old (many older vets seem to go back for both undergrad and grad degrees when they hit retirement. Younger are more GI bill types, etc). And these ones are very different. There are still a ton that think a lot like me, and always were pretty against the crazy, SJW, "woke," intersectional left, w/ plenty bad to say about democrats. But despite this, and an often more libertarian ideology, they also all hate Trump. So it's a weird kind of schism. These are all more lower rank military and vets, but yea, the difference is still significant. Again, none seem to be super democrat, establishment type, and have plenty to criticize that we would as well... but there's definitely a schism, with the ones involved in academia HATING Trump, even if they are fairly right leaning.
My fiancee also works for a family — husband is military, and she always tells me how shocked she is that they're liberal. They don't talk politics much, if at all, but she's like me, and smart, so she can sense it (plus, CNN always being on their TV is a decent giveaway). At least they aren't crazy leftists, but... yea.

My brother is a doctor. He specifically was working in a hospital in NYC when covid was really tearing through NYC. He doesn't work in a hospital anymore (and didn't then), but was needed at that time because of how bad numbers got in NYC. In any case, he, too, is on the same page as us. BUT, he's an oncologist, so even during most of the pandemic, he's been working at his main practice and with his primary cancer clients. He's told me that, while people like himself and I really have nothing to worry about, corona is pretty much a death sentence for those with any serious cancer diagnosis. It's a real threat for anyone with cancer, so I really hope Rush is at least being careful in that respect, and not taking the attitude that a lot of us conservatives are (rightfully and rationally) taking w/ covid. He's not in the same situation as us, so he really should be taking proper precautions to not expose himself and put himself at risk too much. We want Rush to have the best chance possible at overcoming this!

When Rush became nationally syndicated, my Dad started listening to him maybe the first week and I was six. My childhood was filled with the opening strains of his radio show and the sounds of him crinkling paper saying, “I have here, in my former nicotine stained fingers...” and “Talent on loan from God”. Rush got us through the Clinton years and kept us laughing.
I volunteered on Low Energy Jebs first campaign for florida Governor, that he lost. And Rush was there with me, on a little Walkman radio with beat up headphones.
In 2000, I protested the recount in Tallahassee Florida outside the building where the recount was taking place and Rush was there too. On a different radio.
When knocking on doors for Trump and then, DeSantis, Rush was there too, but now, on my phone.
Wherever I’ve been, whatever I’ve been doing, Rush has been there. He’s been a truth teller, a friend, a mentor, and beacon of hope in dark times for conservatives and for me personally.
