There are only a few legal cases where the Supreme Court has original jurisdiction. It’s been a few years since I last took a law class (obviously not a lawyer). I believe that states suing other states and other foreign states suing us states or federal government. Other than the above mentioned examples the Supreme Court has appellate jurisdiction over everything else. That means all other legal matters must originally be heard by the appropriate lower court.
