It’s a masterpiece, and his last book. He died before it was published (1945) It deserves to be read. It’s almost comedic. Werfel is a fascinating character himself. His books are all great, especially Song of Bernadette, and 40 Days of Musa Dagh.
For God’s sake don’t read “Camp of the Saints” a novel which foretold the mass migration decades ago.
