HOA’s are communism. I live in Canada, we don’t really have them, I don’t understand how you pay for them to tell you what you can and can’t do with your home and property.

You clever son of a bitch I like it!

28

It only makes sense for condominiums where the fee goes towards maintenance, lawn and garden etc.

13
Salacious_B_Trump 13 points ago +17 / -4

There is a Libertarian case for HOAs. I live in a huge community with an HOA. We do not rely on government for keeping our neighborhood and parks clean. Our parks and pools are our's. We have a stake in how they are run and they are maintained perfectly.

You do need to to get permission for doing major stuff on the outside of your house, but it is easy. Nobody's home looks like shit. HOAs get a bad rap, I like them (at least I like mine).

23
spezisacuckold 23 points ago +24 / -1

A libertarian case would make HOAs voluntary.

7
HillarysBeaverMunch 7 points ago +11 / -4

HOAs ARE voluntary.

No one buys a house and then SURPRISE! finds out they are suddenly in a HOA. People know about it going in.

10
spezisacuckold 10 points ago +13 / -3

Following that logic are taxes voluntary seeing as you haven't moved out of the country?

5
deleted 5 points ago +7 / -2
9
DaesDaemar 9 points ago +9 / -0

Are you saying the fees and rules never change after you bought a house, and that it is impossible that they could change despite your best effort to resist it? Are you allowed to cede from the HOA after purchase if you find it is not worth it?

7
Casualize 7 points ago +7 / -0

You, I like you.

6
spezisacuckold 6 points ago +7 / -1

So people willingly choosing to stay in the USA means they agree with everything the government makes them pay for?

-3
HillarysBeaverMunch -3 points ago +1 / -4

That is not my logic. Your comment lacks enlightenment and clue, and you are missing a fundamental concept in this issue.

No one forces you to buy a house in a HOA neighborhood. Are people really this retarded?

4
spezisacuckold 4 points ago +5 / -1

No one forces you to live in the USA after you’re an adult, but that doesn’t mean taxes here are voluntary.

-2
HillarysBeaverMunch -2 points ago +1 / -3

Not the same argument in any way. You just reminded me that critical thinking, like civics, is no longer taught in most schools.

3

Gayest argument ever.

5
WisestGuru93 5 points ago +5 / -0

It's true. I bought a condo and I knew I was getting into HOA. But instead of bitching about the dues like everybody does, I joined the board and spotted the rotten guy doing all the corruption. We amended the by laws to remove corrupt members, balanced the budget and we are now rebuilding at about $20,000/ month from net profit. MAGA its not just about cheering for Trump. It's about doing leg work.

3
HillarysBeaverMunch 3 points ago +3 / -0

MAGA celebrates personal responsibility and common sense!

0
HillarysBeaverMunch 0 points ago +1 / -1

Not an argument. Rather is is reality, and due diligence is part of being a grown up. You'll find this out someday.

3
anon291 3 points ago +4 / -1

The HOA is the government by any libertarian definition. They can make rules and use violence (eviction). This they are a government

Even worse they have no restrictions on their ability to legislate when it comes to your home whereas normal american governments do, when they're not runby democrats at least.

-1
6ft7WeighsAnFingTon -1 points ago +5 / -6

I think you could argue that in a neighborhood setting, if one person doesn’t maintain their property, it will negatively impact the value of their neighbors’ property. I think all conservatives would agree that one citizen shouldn’t be allowed to deprive another of property, or to devalue that property...

6
Scroon 6 points ago +6 / -0

With all respect, this is so wrong.

It's the exact same argument that leads to saying one potentially infectious person shouldn't be allowed to deprive other people of their health, therefore everyone must be told how to take care of their own bodies.

The value of your property is linked to the "community", but the nature of the community can either be decided by the free choice of the individuals OR through the dictate of the government.

Free choice is risky, but it is free. Dictated conformity is safe, but individuals must be controlled.

America was founded on the former, not the latter.

0
6ft7WeighsAnFingTon 0 points ago +1 / -1

I think you’re mischaracterizing the issue.

What I mean is, HOAs are specifically not the government. They are a voluntary association of property owners. Citizens agree to the HOA rules and regulations when they purchase the property. The HOA is conducted in the manner of a democracy, with votes required to pass new rules or modify/remove old ones.

CoreyAnder 8 points ago +8 / -0

The only good thing about an HOA is when you have a shitty neighbor that lets weeds grow or doesn’t maintain their house. There are a lot of shitty neighbors. If you must live in an HOA, run for the Board. I did for 6 years and stopped the stupid things like letting fines build up for a mailbox needing maintenance. We had $500 worth of fines for one house, when replacing the mailbox costs $150 or less. They usually aren’t smart people, just people that like control.

2
DaesDaemar 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's the issue, you have to weigh the odds of someone letting their expensive house decay to a point it affects yours, versus being suffocated by a bunch of nancy control freaks who want to regulate everything. Cities often have rules on things like grass length, etc.

One big issue is developers make these tiny lots that bump you up next to your neighbors to the point where you can't walk outside to your deck without 3-4 neighbor houses able see what you're doing. You can't build huge walls around your lot, it's all just a big fishbowl that is prime for bored nancy snoopers.

8
SilverBackTrump 8 points ago +10 / -2

HOAs are why we basically have no neighborhoods anymore. Everyone hates each other because of the way they create tension and power struggles amongst neighbors. They should be BANNED.

SilverBackTrump 0 points ago +1 / -1

Good point and completely true. My bad experiences with HOAs is mostly in AZ, NV AND CA. Probably related more to the Californication (great fucking show btw) of the western states. My parents had an hoa in Texas in a large development where everyone has an acre + and that one was fantastic and people got a long. But people are just nicer in Texas anyways as a general rule.

2
HillarysBeaverMunch 2 points ago +2 / -0

People definitely are nicer and more civilized in TX that CA. I will attest to that in a court of law.

4
SilverBackTrump 4 points ago +5 / -1

Motivated pothead here, I also wouldn’t do shit. But that’s because I’m not a tiny dicked communist trying to wield power over my neighbors.

1
malapropcomic 1 point ago +3 / -2

You know who I mean.

0
SilverBackTrump 0 points ago +1 / -1

Oh i do!

EDIT: had a client years back who had a neighbor who was an HOA nazi. My guy was going dumb shit (running a blow up jumping castle business out of his garage and parking a box truck there whenever it wasn't being used) but the guy rectified the issue by moving everything to a storage unit and parking the truck elsewhere We thought the problem was solved. Then we get the HOA attorney (the true scum of the earth type people, totally unethical 99% of the time as well) sending us letters with the box truck and other vehicles parked in front of his house in the middle of the day WHEN HE WAS GOING HOME FOR LUNCH! Client swore the guy must have a camera installed pointed at his house but I didn't want him going over there to look. Took my room mate by there and had him jump out of the car and get a picture of the camera that was attached to the eaves and pointed DIRECTLY at my client's house. Pretty sure it was automated as well. These sorts of people are the worst of the worst I think and sadly theyve only been emboldened more by the internet and cancel culture.

1
HillarysBeaverMunch 1 point ago +1 / -0

Also a pot head, slightly less motivated than Mr. SilverBack.

Even I can see the potential for tyranny in a HOA.

My policy is this: Never let your front yard be the shittiest looking yard on your street. Never be the low hanging fruit.

2
MoldyLocksNesMonste 2 points ago +2 / -0

Right. As long as the weeds in your neighbors yard are higher than yours you're good.

Can you post the HoA rule, specifically? Typically a creative way to work around. For example if you are limited in number, what about size? Would one giant sign work?

7
UwillNotSubmit 7 points ago +7 / -0

Good idea. I bet there's a size limit though.

12
ThisTrainHasNoBrakes 12 points ago +12 / -0

Sure, but there is ALWAYS a technicality to exploit where you follow the letter but disobey the spirit of a law.

Example: a friend of mine had this issue. But guess what...signs are not banners, at least not in this jurisdiction. So she now has a HUGE banner in her yard after neighbors complained about the signs

4
deleted 4 points ago +4 / -0
2
deleted 2 points ago +2 / -0
3
ThisTrainHasNoBrakes 3 points ago +3 / -0

What's the exact text of the rule? For example, a friend of mine had a similar rule on signs but it said nothing about banners. So some HUGE banners went up promptly after sign complaints.

Great job sticking up for yourself.

Previously served on our HOA board to stop the cuckery afoot in our neighborhood. Ask for a copy of the CC&Rs, find the exact section you are in violation of. Next look for others in the neighborhood that are in violation of that section or others, not as a way to "tattle" on them but rather demonstrate non-uniform enforcement of the codes and restrictions. Not sure what state you're in but there was a grace period in our HOA for political signs around election "season".

Need any more signs (for your house or vehicles' windows)?

I have a thread with over 30 more sign and "bumper sticker" mini-sign designs like this, all free for you to download and print out.

There are Pro-Trump, theDonald.win, Stop the Steal, Anti-Voter Fraud, Anti-Fake News, and more designs for signs. Send me suggestions and I will make custom signs for you.

Image links for the signs are in the comments in the thread linked below:

I wouldnt live in a neighborhood with an HOA if the house was free.

Parents neighborhood is run by a HOA, during a severe storm a neighbor had a tree limb go straight through their roof. They patched it with a tarp and called the roofers who said that color wasn't being made anymore so if they want it to match they have to buy a whole new roof, so they did, just a standard color, nothing crazy....

HOA fined them for not spending two months during thunderstorm season with a gaping hole in the roof while those fucking cucks had a meeting about it and told them what the approved color they are allowed to redo their roof in was.

Total fucking socialism.

There's even a book I once read (I think called the association) that's reads like this. Basically dystopian where the rules mean total control of the residents and dissent is punished with beatings and death. I remember it as a good book.
