What's particularly awful about the whole mask thing is how inconsistent the medical experts were.
At first they said that n95 masks needed to be reserved and procured for medical professionals, first responders, etc. and that masks wouldn't be helpful for the general populace. This brings up an interesting conundrum: If face coverings were so important to contain the virus, why did they actively discourage their use for months? If any kind of face covering is acceptable now, why weren't they being pushed at the start of this?
Yeah, there's a difference between a short term measure while we take the time to learn about it, but mandating it so long that people are intended to feel it's the norm is sheer insanity.

I will be the first to admit I did not leave my apartment the month of April, and wore a mask when I went to the store, and over used hand sanitizer....I learned after the month of April when people weren't dying in the streets and the "science" kept changing, that I was wrong.
I generally just told people to read the back of the box of masks. "Does not protect against viruses" or similar wording is on all but the N95's. It gets people very mad when you point it out.
