Reaching into a personal storage device and deleting data off of it is a violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Maybe I have too much faith in Microsoft, but that's such a drastic supermove that would cost them billions in business alone, let alone suits and arrests.

Lenovo installed software that broke internet encryption to be able to serve extra ads and they are still in business. If you are curious check out Superfish.

I wouldn't be too surprised if MS had something in the terms of service that says they can cull data to keep performance good. Even if the data poofed being able to prove who it was would be nearly impossible.

I do agree that they wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't put it past our friends at the National Suspicion Agency.
