This. I suspect that a majority of threads at any given time are authored by a handful of very obsessed wierdos. That kind flocks to 4chan like moths to a light. Back when I was browsing there, I noticed a lot of patterns, repeated posts, etc. There are "professional" trolls who live to just fuck with people (see: Something Awful forums). I have/had some friends seriously invested in that underbelly of the net, and introduced me to some of it, like the fuckedcompany forums, which was all destroyed by one really big, fat smelly troll, and the whole 'red" forums that spawned from it. I didn't dive in, because that's seriously polluted waters, but it's something that always comes to mind looking at /pol.
This kind of obsession is nothing new, Usenet was stuffed with that kind when it was still relevant.
I love how Something Awful started as a place for people to laugh at those who were "too Internet", and became everything they claimed to hate and worse.
I was there in the early days, helped with my edgelord development. Checked in on it recently just to see if it still existed and it was pretty fucking lame.
The Rogan board was surprisingly based with great discussions and chaotic dumb shit until it got vaporized one day a few years ago without warning and everything completely deleted. Too much liability for Joe apparently as I think he started the forums before the podcast even existed.
Eh, it's always like that, slide threads all over. gotta dig in to find the good stuff
