There has been leftism around much longer than I've been alive, (the 60's had a large leftist counter-culture, for example), but I feel like it has been on a downward spiral since 9/11. Everything changed after that with the Patriot Act, TSA, etc.
Culturally, I noticed a very large and noticeable shift around 2012. Even if you go back and watch old TV shows and stuff.... there are a lot of leftist stuff from before, but from 2012 on there was a BIG shift. TV shows feel more like propaganda filled with virtue signaling. You no longer can have an opinion leftist culture is the "moral" culture, etc. PC culture was a thing back in the 90's/early 00's that we would make fun of.... after 2012 it became a religion.
I live in Texas, so people in bluer places may have had a different experience than me. I am curious to hear other people's opinions on this.
I am going to be 30 on Sunday and I noticed the exact same thing...before Obama liberalism was goofy and stupid. Most Democrats didn’t want to be associated with the word liberal. Liberals were counterculture and pushed moral relativism.
After about 2010, liberalism/socialism/communism/DeepState-ism was the “moral code” upon which America was founded. Notice how the deep staters all jump on Trump for “attacking our institutions,” “this is not who we are,” etc.
Conservatism/nationalism/patriotism is the counterculture now.
