I’m trying to figure out the best option for my bug out / go bag. I have several guns and purchasing more. Question is what’s best to keep in / with my go bag (SHTF and I only have access to this bag, what’s in it)? Something small and easy to conceal / discreetly dispose? Something rugged like a .357 mag trail gun? .22 rifle so I can carry a ton of light ammo? Something that can chamber different rounds for versatility? Something else to consider I haven’t thought of yet? I can’t decide, so turning to the people on here who have already thought this out.

U want a 9mm Ar15 in 5.56 and a remington 870 tsctical
I would add a Ruger 10/22 to that list
a .22 rifle is nice and versatile...also light ammo...Henry has a take down which is only the size of it's stock...so that leaves room for a hand gun, which others can help you with.
is 556 5hat much better than 223?
So, I've always been told it was important what ammo was more common because in a real SHTF scenario you will likely be scavenging ammo. I know a couple decades ago that was 556, but it may have changed with so many people having 223 ARs.
I would assume if the un gets involved they will be using .556 & 9mm. At least thats what I was thinking when picking my fighting caliber's.
Ehh not really. If your taking ammo off a corpse then the weapon that fires it is also on said corpse.
Potentially, but you are limited in the amount of weapons you can carry and you wouldn't want to drop one you were familiar with and had experience shooting to pick up some dead guys.
Agree but just like in Vietnam if your weapon is no longer viable then you take one that is.
The apocalypse won't be like a video game. You won't be scavenging ammo. Check out the work of Selco who lived through the Balkans war - ammo drops didn't happen, most people didn't survive firefights even if they won and black markets sold ammo.
Don't rely on finding ammo on dead bodies even if you stack them. Once you shoot a guy their friend will be waiting to see who did it.
Black markets had to get it form somewhere. I really wasn't thinking so much off of dead bodies anyway. If it was from dead bodies I would figure they would generally be friendlies. Honestly though I would even consider resulting to the black market for ammo is essentially scavenging. Black markets aren't exactly just set up on the corner like Walmart. If you ever try buying drugs in a new city it's definitely got a scavenger feel.
True but the point is Black markets are dangerous. This Selco cat used to have to go at night, couldn't bring women because they'd be raped etc.
My preference is to stock ammo and reloading equipment. To me Black markets are the last place I'd want to be in a WROL. But I'm talking pure survivalist here. If you plan on fighting in the civil war you'd want 5.56/.223 or 9mm for logistics in your militias.
i have a 223 wylde rifle, so i can use either. just wast sure if one was superior to the other
223 higher velocity lower bullet weight.
Ar500 level 3 plates will stop 556 won’t stop 223 55 grain
Send me everything you don't take and I'll keep it safe for you.

My .02? A Glock 19 or 26 in 9mm. Fairly inexpensive, reliable, durable, concealable, powerful enough, takes 15/17/33 round mags, ammo is (was) widely available. Get a threaded barrel in case you get a can and a reliable light. Your go bag is for getting you out of the shit to a defensible position, not prolonged survival.
10 mm glock 20. It’s what I keep in my go bag.
Concealable, Can be used for hunting, Hits like a train, 17 round mag standard- 31 round mag available, Manageable recoil, Ammo readily available, Can fire .40 if needed, Better range than 9mm, 45 or 40
It depends on your environment and your skill level plus what your bug out plan is and your fitness level. In general I go this way-
Bug out to location 1-5 day away - whatever self defense options you're comfortable with since your bag will have the food you need for that amount of time in it.
Bug-out to nowhere in the city/suburbs - kind of the same but you'll want a .22 (I'd go with revolver) to harvest some game as quietly as possible. Again environment plays a role - in areas that have lots of streams and retention ponds you'll want to make room for minnow or crayfish traps. Lots of rabbits or squirrel trapping them with a rat trap or a 110 conibear is better then shooting.
Bug-out to nowhere the forest: You'll want to look at what the LongHunters of the 18th century traveled with. In the modern context that would be some sort of simple break open shotgun with Short Lane Arms adapters which allow you to fire common rifle and pistol calibers out of one gun. Dave Canturbury has a series of videos' called 21st Century Longhunter that discusses this. Break open shotguns aren't tacticool but they allow you to chamber mini shells with out adapters and can be repaired easier and most importantly are easy to tack down and pack in a bag if and when you come out the woods for trade or whatever.
But again context is everything. If you're the one conservative Trump supporter in Portland somewhere high cap rifles will be your need. If you're in a car you can take lots of guns, until you can't get gas.
But all that being said - the time for being picky about guns and ammo was last year. Whatever you have now is what you have. If you're buying new guns check to see what has ammo available.
Glock 19 gen 3 imo. Most aftermarket parts of any handgun, so parts would be available. 9mm most available ammo in most circumstances
