There was a scandal a decade or so about (IIRC) JP Morgan sending a pallet that they had gotten "From Fort Knox" to the EU somewhere for some damn reason ... and it being an entire pallet of gold-plated-tungsten. There were calls to investigate ... and nothing ever actually happened to my knowledge.

The only "Gold related" real news I'm aware of is Judy Sheldon being an advocate for "Hard Money" - aka a 'Gold Bug'.
