I told everyone that Facebook was a data mining scheme to track people when it first came out so I never joined. The privacy issues always concerned me and everyone thought I was nuts then.
I am in this boat. No social media since 2010. After a weird acquaintance from highschool started trying to rope me in to a MLM and a very unattractive woman I barely knew from school 8 years prior started professing her love for me over facebook chat. I want to honor my wife so I got the fuck out of there. This is the closest thing to social media I use. I was only on reddit because 4chan wouldn't shut up about the the_donald in its early days.
I slowly saw what was happening with cancel culture becoming more and more frequent. At first it was a few high profile celebrities for cancelled. I think Rosie was one of the first that made me take notice.
But then I started seeing more regular people. Often time Reddit would post about it and circle jerk to someone losing their livelihood due to wrong think. I finally came to the realization that social media was more of a liability, then a necessity. Seems like things are still only getting worse now.
I stopped using FB when it became toxic. That and I am super anti social. I use pinterest I am always on here. I finally realized I never made an account ( ops). Since we moved from reddit which I have since deleted.
To much negativity on most places. I dont need it or want. I also dont people having that much control over me like twitter and FB seem to do if you post something that they don't like. I have better things to do in my life.
I have a Twitter and I use it to flame and antagonize Twitter. Fake name, burner phone number. It's actually my second Twitter because I got banned back when I jumped in on the MPC meltdown fun.
I have no facebook, myspace, twitter, etc. I made a linkedin account when I was looking for a job but haven't looked at it in years. Pretty sure I'm not missing anything.
