I reacted to the headline too...but, after a cup of covfefe, I read the article and it's not saying TD.win is the cybercriminal forum. Raidforums is.
The data was allegedly purchased by someone on the website the "thedonald[.]win" and then posted for anyone to access on Raidforums, which Digital Shadows described as a popular cybercriminal forum.
Article goes on to say...
It is lawful to purchase voter data.
I think the point of the article is that, while it was legal to obtain the WI (and PA) registered voter lists, sharing the personal voter info which includes name, addresses, and DOB, on the internet puts voters on the list at risk.
βThe leaked information has the potential to enable threat actors to launch malicious campaigns, including spearphishing or other types of social engineering attacks, spread disinformation to influence future elections, or create the appearance of voter fraud,β
And...
be used by criminals to personalize phishing emails or for stalking and harassment.
So, while we have a noble purpose for the data, the file, unintentionally I'm sure, ended up on a site with mal-intentioned folks.
ADDENDUM: Faux News is definitely trying to smear TD.win with their headline. I wouldn't be surprised if it's because we're crashing their ratings after their betrayal.
There's really no debate here. The person you replied to pretty much nailed it down.
You could maybe theoretically try to argue that there are damages to the datapede through implicit language? But since the article clearly states "purchasing data is legal", and the article headline is not factually nor textually inaccurate... Oh, and they'd have to prove someone tied their .win account to their public identity, and caused damage to them therein.
Sorry, really not seeing it. Raving about muh lawsuits! just reeks of Karen-ish frivolous lawsuits, particularly when the premise under which you would litigate is false.
I was a Fox News addict. Practically had it on 24/7. Recorded 5 shows.
Now F them!
Another Pede had posted a screenshot of the headline and I wanted to see what they had to say. IMHO They are intentionally trying to smear TD.win. I hope their ratings crash and burn.
"TD basically signed ALL the books out of the library, and produced countless copies of those books - putting untold information at risk of never being returned!"

That was my point. After reading the article, I don't think there's a case. However, that headline is definitely meant to smear TD.win.
Oh yeah, for sure. The sad thing is how it's so blatant in its framing. Journalists used to be more subtle in their propagandizing.
The only thing this faux news article will achieve is more Pedes on thedonald. We should thank them for the shout out.
Oh, I totally agree. Before I saw your post, I even added an addendum to my original post saying this.
havin to out yourself on this one must a been tough :)
LOL!! Me? I never even heard of Raidforums until today. =D
I just want TD.win to be accurate, especially since we're getting so much visibility now.
Thank you for the Smile,
I'm meant going to Fox :)
but on a serious side, the information posted is Greatly Appreciated.
