The official motto if the Supreme Court has just been updated to the following: Payback Is A Bitch, You Dirty, Commie Motherfuckers.

In Latin: Eta Bago Dikus, Comme Skumus

The Latin phrase wins the internet today sir. Well played.

Except, I sincerely believe it will have nothing to do with payback.

The law clearly states signatures must be checked and there must be an opportunity for Republicans to observe. These justices like to follow the law not make up random shit. They aren't commies who throw away statutes because they don't like them.

That just makes it better. It is perfectly legal, and right in the books. They don't even have abe to break any rules to get revenge. Just uphold them.

This didn't just happen. This has been their assignments since before the election. ACB inherited RBG's assignments.

Edit: today they confirmed the assignment of RBG's circuits to ACB. So the defacto status quo has become official today.

Hunterscrackbaby 36 points ago +36 / -0

each district court has a SCOTUS judge that acts as a "supervisor" or sorts. (Supervisor isn't entirely accurate...but it works)

Appears that they shifted some of those assignments to have the good guys on the right district courts.

Was corrected below, this is how it has been since before the election. NOT a shift after the election. Still awesome, but not recent.

24
Constitution_jd 24 points ago +24 / -0

No shifting. Just great happenstance. These have been the circuit assignments since before the election!

14
Vla1ne 14 points ago +14 / -0

I cannot, for the life of me, see this as a fortunate accident. There is too much at play to make me think this wasn't thought out prior by trump.

11
TheSwiftPepe 11 points ago +11 / -0

God himself sent a well timed lightning bolt at RBG in time to replace her before the election. No way that was chance.

4
Cristytea123 4 points ago +4 / -0

I agree! God moved to take her at that time for a reason!

3
Hunterscrackbaby 3 points ago +3 / -0

4
TheMadManDidItAgain 4 points ago +4 / -0

I see... that's what I was thinking. Almost like the SCOTUS judge will be able to challenge that judge. The point being that this is an emergency situation and time is of the essence, so any way they can get this sped up and not delayed is critical.

Can anyone ELI5, they are going to be ruling on court cases that are below the SCOTUS?

24
twodumb2live 24 points ago +24 / -0

Sooo, to the best of my knowledge, it's like this: each of the thirteen Federal Circuit Courts is assigned one Supreme Court Justice who then considers certain appeals from his or her assigned circuit while other aspects of the case are still pending.

Each state has a US Federal District Court (sometimes, if it's a large state, they have more. Where I'm at, in Michigan, we have the Eastern District and the Western District.) From the US District Court, it gets appealed to the Federal Circuit Court level, which is made up of groups of states. Cases that originate in Michigan, get appealed to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, as do federal (not state) cases that originate out of OH, TN, and KN.

Third Circuit(Pennsylvania), 6th Circuit(Michigan), 7th Circuit(Wisconsin), 8th circuit(Possibly)(Minnesota), 9th Circuit(Nevada,Arizona), 11th Circuit(Georgia). So the only liberal judge over those is 9th Circuit Kagan.

1st and 2nd Circuit are far NE where only New Hampshire was shady. I wish Gorsuch and Kagan Districts were swapped then we'd had all the circuits with states in question covered by "conservative" justices. They gave 2 of the smallest circuits with no real fights going on to 2 liberal judges, the large 9th circuit to Kagan was the only one not in our favor.

6
Gmama2 6 points ago +6 / -0

And to be honest of ALL of the liberals Kagan occasionally has flashes of honest jurisprudence. If I had to pick a liberal she would be the first choice.

So does that mean we are not looking good in the western states? Seems like Kagan wouldn’t rule in our favor even with the overwhelming evidence...

These assignments are for applications that can be decided by a single Justice, but a decision by a single Justice can be overturned by the full Court. For example, if there is an emergency application that truly needs a temporary decision in a day or two to preserve the status quo or to prevent irreparable harm, a Justice can issue a temporary order, pending review by the full Court, which can happen very quickly in that circumstances. A single Justice won't go out on a limb, typically, without having a good idea that enough of the Court is behind that decision.

JigglesV 3 points ago +3 / -0

What does this mean?

2
Vla1ne 2 points ago +3 / -1

In short, SCOTUS is deploying one member per destrict to act because shit is getting too crazy, and there is still the need for accelerated rulings.

Long explanation, the top dogs are about to descend and wreck shit as formerly expected. But they may not move just yet, so while this is all good news, it remains to be seen how long they'll wait before acting.

2
JigglesV 2 points ago +2 / -0

Are they presented with cases? Can they issue a ruling? Ehat’s needed?

2
Vla1ne 2 points ago +3 / -1

As far as i can tell, they can step in at almost any stage in their districts and hand down rulings, so long as the aspect of the case in question is an open suit, and so long as they are either called in, or the question is directly related to state/federal law. The only real problem is it is rare, extremely rare, for them to proactively do so.

Ailito showed what this looks like a few weeks back, when he ruled that votes dated past the 3rd cannot be counted. If there is any evidence that they defied his orders, he can zeus the whole district and wipe it from the ballot.

Their word is law in these moments, and only the full supreme court can slap their individual rulings down.

2
ajmlecciones 2 points ago +2 / -0

And these are extremely rare times when there's a chance to strike down so much corruption. May God protect us all!

1
Vla1ne 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm not a doomer on Kavanaugh by any stretch, but Barret, Alito, and Thomas being in the most crucial states really activates my almonds.

Even if Kavanaugh cucks out, I'm confident in the other 3 to do what's right.

2
Alphahorizon 2 points ago +2 / -0

We better make sure these MFers are protected. If they will kill a baby up and after birth their is no depth to their depravity.

2
Luckyftw 2 points ago +2 / -0

This seems promising. I imagine they'll have some orders on how to handle the counts.

2

Kavanaugh better remember who had his back when they tried to crucify him. Don’t cuck out Kav. We’re watching.

2
IridiumForte 2 points ago +2 / -0

Man. My one lib friend seems to think the concept of Trumps team getting anything before the SCOTUS is as much of a pipe dream as overturning the election (in their eyes)

To be fair, I'm actually Canadian so I've just been constantly trying to learn how things work in greater and greater depth since Nov 3rd.

Why is it that my friend believes it could never get to SCOTUS, and why is he wrong?

2
Vla1ne 2 points ago +2 / -0

Trumps team is making federal arguments in several cases, and SCOTUS member ailito has already handed down at least one ruling. If your friend thinks it will not get to supreme court, They are likely either completely delusional or terribly misinformed as to how the courts work.
