With hotels you also get what you pay for, usually.

Every single person I've known who has used an AirBnB had something go wrong. Usually it's something like specifically rented a place with AC months in advance, show up, oh AC is broken. Now it's too late to do anything about it.

Too inconsistent to be worth spending money on imo. If you can't afford a normal hotel you probably shouldn't be traveling. At least, that's my view on it.

Someone explain to me what AirBnB is? Like you just pay some stranger to sleep in their house for a night?

Instead of renting a shitty hotel room, you can rent an entire house/condo. Usually for not much more money.

Given that it is an actual residence, you can therefore stay in residential areas rather than in the commercial sprawl where all the hotels are.

It's basically Uber, but for places to stay.

100%. I tried once when I had to travel for work -- IT SUCKED (I couldn't even book shit). Hotel was cheaper, cleaner, easier to book, check-in, bar in the hotel, room service 24/7, etc. But hey, whom how, as we say in Russian.
