Not that this is important right now, but I find quoting Abe Lincoln on anything having to do with the Constitution to be pretty ironic. The man suspended habeas corpus and imprisoned thousands while he waged the bloodiest war in American history in order to prevent states from seceding, which is a right strongly implied in the constitution itself. Even if you think Lincoln was a great president, at least recognize that he violated the shit out of the constitution. He also set terrible precedents which later presidents abused. You don't get Woodrow Wilson without the centralization established by Lincoln, and if there's no Woodrow Wilson there's no US involvement in WW1, which means no WW2, which means no cold war. Etc...

That said, I know he ended slavery and therefore criticizing him in any way means you are in favor of slavery so I'll shut up now.

If Donald Trump did what Abe Lincoln did, the majority of this forum would be on their feet cheering. Including me. Sometimes you have to go above and beyond to achieve. And what he achieved wasn't ending slavery, that was an ancillary win. He kept the country together and reforged a union. We'll never know what would have happened had he been milquetoast about half of a country seceding.

At any rate, the anti-Lincoln narrative essentially manufactures the black pill that the USA has been false to it's core values and defunct since before the turn of the 20th century. There's a lot of strong arguments there, but that's a dark road.
