USB is used as a backup for many multi purpose hardware solutions, including ATMs and medical equipment. Mostly for cryptographic hardware tokens, scanners, printers, cameras, etc. Especially in ATMs but this circuit pinout looks almost the same to me by design.

It's not meant for a mass storage USB like on your desktop PC.
