Arecibo was never going to last forever.

Everybody is doing interferometers. For small dishes, IIRC hydroforming is quite cost-effective. Much better maintainability. Flexibility, because computing power is cheap.

China has something like Arecibo but bigger (FAST = Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope). It's part dick-waving.
