I got a message tonight I've never seen before: too many requests. This is us! Just a few hours, and the site still ran, we were rate limited.
They are backups for if the DNS is attacked. As such, they should probably be up and working already.

Not necessarily.. none of us know the infrastructure. The servers did go down earlier, and an alternate domain name wouldn’t fix that.

Yup just about went full 1776 before it came back up.
None of the backups worked when the outage happened. So i guess those only go live if it's the provider shutting things down
They are only supposed to be backup names, not infrastructure. So there's no reason they shouldn't be configured already as far as I know.
