Ohkay guys. I've been lurking here since the 4th and finally decided to make an account. Just 4 years ago I was someone who believed that the death of capitalism was the only thing that could save us. This is my story.
As a kid I would watch politics with my grammie all the time. Her favorite was lou dobbs on cnn and she couldn't stand Bush at the time. Every election season it was like perpetual christmas for me. Going to see her, watching the debates, watching the primaries, and ultimately the results come in on election night. Some times my guy won, sometimes he didnt but what mattered was the journey of it and the time I spent with her. While we were in a deep blue state and she was a die hard dem. She always stressed the importance of looking at other viewpoints.
Fast forward to high school. My favorite commentator was keith olbermann ( yes I know) and one of my closest friends loved rush limbaugh. We didnt agree on anything but we could always have a good discussion. I grew up in a factory town that was destroyed when buisiness went overseas so corporate corruption and abuse was always a big issue for me. My family didnt have much, heck we almost went homeless in 2008 during the recession. Myself and my parents needed medicine that without insurance would bankrupt us. Due to these two things I fell into the bernie mentality of " free healthcare , and buisiness= bad". Hell I almost marched in occupy.
Then two interesting things happened ( I cannot remember which came first). Comcast bought MSNBC and fired Keith midshow for shitting on comcast ( this began my distrust in corporate media) and ron paul ran in the republican primary. Watching ron paul I realized bigger government wasnt the answer to healthcare or anything really. I was in awe at the time that someone on the republican ticket was not trying to force religion down my throat, even more surprising was the fact he wasnt a warhawk.
I then watched him get screwed by his own party.
Also during this era my republican friend and I finally agreed on one thing : Obamacare would fuck the healthcare industry even further.
I then went to college and at the time bought into the whole orange man bad thing. I was worried he was going to get us into war with korea. I was worried he was going to further destroy american buisiness . I was worried he would be a tyrant. So yeah. In 2016 I voted for clinton ( I know I know eww). I flipped out on my dad because he voted for trump ( mind you 4 generations of our family since getting off the boat were dems). He told me to trust him and that we needed something different. Election night my ex ( a communist ex-marine) and I were giddy to see Hillary win.
Then she didnt He curled up in a ball and cried with his copy of the communist manifesto ( yeah I know... I made poor life choices)
I'll admit I was very nervous. So I started watching more political content and stumbled across sargon briefly through a game reviewer and styx. While this was going on I realized something amazing.
Wait the Koreas are talking to each other
Wait industry is coming back!?
Wait trump is calling out the establishment( and is fuckong hilarious while doing so).
Wait my taxes are going down
Wait my medication prices are going down.
Wait he doesnt give a shit that I'm bi.
Wait the left is calling for censorship
Wait the left is calling for violence
And finally: Wait The left is wanting us to judge each other by the color of our skin and not by the content of our character.
Around this time I began dating my now fiancee who is definitely on the conservative end. After moving out of ct I also realized how great this country was as I finally had all my rights ( have fun getting a gun in ct). It was amazing. This place was free. Fuck censorship. Yay america xD
More and more I began loving the president and realizing that he was the populist I was looking for all along. I voted red for the first time in 2018. Then covid hit
Cant get married yet due to this shit My dad now has ptsd from running a respiratory hospital near NYC due to how shitty the dems handled it. I had to deal with ptsd flashbacks daily due to having to wear a fucking mask at my job ( now I wear a shield). My career in law enforcement couldn't start. And fuck peoples mental health and small businesses right?.
Last month I came across a trump stand and made some of the best friends I'll ever know. We ran stands together and even some at rallies. It was like a family. And they welcomed me with open arms.
I was so hyped for election night. As watching the numbers come in reminds me of all those wonderful times with my grammie. It was going great. Then the bullshit started. As someone who obsessively studied election data for decades shit didnt make sense. Then one by one
Blue
I was dooming pretty hard guys.... Then my fiancee showed me this site. It is amazing. I also finally told one of my best friends I was a trumper ( I was really nervous to do so as he is a bernie guy). He didnt abandon me. In fact he smelled the election bullshit too. Thank you guys for getting me out of my doomyness and for helping me provide information to many other friends. Love you guys <3 P.s. voting this year was one of the happiest moments in a long time. I even brought some other dems to see the light :3
Holy shit. Are you me? This is really similar to my personal story. Except I'm still stuck in CT, and didn't vote for Hillary.
Thinking about moving to somewhere like Wyoming soon.
Lol. Yeah I moved to pa. Planning to go to Tennessee or wyoming eventually. Get out of there ct sucks so bad xD. Also you have no idea how expensive ct is until you leave. Dude you can get an excellent large pizza here for like 7 bucks from a local pizzeria.
Red pilled! Congratulations
I'm so much happier too. Like seriously y'all are a lot more fun. They are miserable as fuck on the left.
Welcome! it took real courage to examine your long held beliefs. I’m glad you did.
Thank you:D
:D
That's a great story! I have vague memories of actually liking Keith Olbermann rants once too. Cringe lol
Welcome fren!
Ty:3
Totally off topic but...Heh, socialism is all about loving your country, many teens these days think both can not exist
USA was all about God and Country, and USSR (and North Korea now) was all about The Glorious Leader and Country
Loving your country should never be out of fashion
Huh never thought about it that way but yeah. True.
Also what are some good political shows to watch? I watch styx, tatum, crowder, sargon, and steve bannon.
Welcome aboard. Really. Welcome.
Yee:3
Pfffff I’m in the Midwest, I’m kinda surprised anyone in Connecticut knows of the existence of that expression. If you want to be a cop, come on down, you won’t get messed with as much in flyover country.
:D
Funny thing is when I first hit post on this was exactly when the site went down. I was like welp now I'm on a list I guess xD
