You obviously already know the answer. They are making their move to bring in the technocracy of the future. Look into GrapheneOS for Pixel phones.

Yes, it's like stock Android but hardened and without Google crap.

I bought the phone recently but haven't installed yet. I need to change carriers first

It varies by manufacturer and carrier so it's hard to give a blanket reason. That said, this is a big year for 5g rollouts and Android 11 rolled out not that long ago. Possible those are driving forces.

Not that I'm aware of generically but it never hurts to be paranoid. You're safest when you assume someone is always watching.

No, actually it's better for you, because each update delivers more security patches.

dont be alarmed BUT if you tech savy you can have android and leave google. its becoming a topic i think is becoming more relevant to us all rather then tech geeks just do a quick web search on de-googled phones, there might be viable way here soon

Google issues a security/bugfix update on the first Tuesday of each month. Your phone will automatically apply this update as it arrives. Usually the patches are small and fix a handful of open issues.

That said, having a burner phone or two squirreled away just in case is a good idea. Anyone got the number for Saul Goodman?
