Two options.

  1. The FBI showed up and dude knows the jig is up and made a deal to save his ass.
  2. He's been in on it and we let the bad actors attempt to pass off fraud. Now we catch them red handed.

Other option is he knows trump is about to drop the insurrection act and that is a shit storm you want to be tucked in cozy and warm inside for.
