I remember in a sci-fi show I watched, there was an episode where people are quarantined inside a building due to a virus outbreak. The virus has some vague sense of "personality" however and keeps trying to drive people to break out of the building so it can continue to spread out in the world.

Of course, it was a very pseudosciency show with a lot of outlandish stuff. Good entertainment though.
