"The society which scorns excellence in plumbing as a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity. Will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy: neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water." - John W. Gardner.
When I see this, this quote comes to mind:
"The society which scorns excellence in plumbing as a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity. Will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy: neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water." - John W. Gardner.
I expected that to be attributable to Jack Handy. Is John Gardner a real, quotable person? Or is this shitposting?
John William Gardner was Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) under President Lyndon Johnson.
I'm a plumber not so much into political history but love the quote.
This is afuckingmazing!
Not sure if your playing with me, but this is an interesting read also A Brief History of Plumbing Codes.
The plumbing trade in the west (I'm in Australia) has a lot to thank America for. I think we imported many of your ideas.
