As much as I thought perhaps the stupidity of Coastal America wouldn't reach the center of the country, unfortunately, it appears to be knocking on our doors with local small towns either considering, or putting into place, mask mandates.
And I think I have an idea how to counter this stupidity.
As the title suggests, the idea is to stop all gratuities and all financial generosity until the city drops their ridiculous mandates.
Very simply put, financial kindness and generosity stops, fully stops, until the mask mandate is lifted. If I go out to eat, I'll gladly be kind and polite, and when the check comes, ZERO for the tip. When I go to the bar and order a drink, ZERO for tips. I get a haircut every 2-3 weeks, no more tips there either. Kids are selling cookies for their school function? Nope, I'll pass. Salvation Army bell ringers outside a store that requires masks? Sorry. You inconvenience me, I inconvenience you.
And yes, I know it puts a hardship on the people who provide those services, and I get that, but a couple people protesting these mandates won't have much of an affect, but hundreds of people who are suffering financially during the holidays... THAT will get heard. And it's very easy to lift that suffering, just lift the mask mandate.
This sounds like a socialist/democrat/leftist tactic. Making the working people pay for the decisions of politicians.
How about tipping extra and writing MAGA on the receipt as mentioned by u/idindudatmayn or simply gently and politely refusing to comply (or refusing business to places that enforce), or something like organizing a MAGA anti-mask protest in front of city counselors' locations or anything that would make an impact?
No argument there, it is a crappy tactic, which is why I wanted to throw it out to everyone here and get input. I already don't go to places that require masks, but the Karens of the local area seem to have the city council's ear and are demanding the whole township be required to wear masks instead of leaving it to the businesses.
Interesting choice of tactics. But that aside, I understand the frustration. Tyranny sucks. Just imagine (actually maybe not!) what it would be if we didn't have an awakened God-fearing population of patriots that responded to the call and voted in unprecedented numbers for the man prepared by the Almighty for such a time as this. These terrible (but minor) side effects of tyranny serve as a wake up call for many who are sleeping to wake them up to a taste of being ruled by the enemy. Let them awaken and remember. Do what you can now and soon things will improve.
'Preciate the good words, thank you!
STAND YOUR GROUND! DO NOT COMPLY!
I appreciate the response, the idea behind it is, if the people in the service industry start seeing a direct correlation between reduction in pay and customers being forced to wear masks, then they'll pressure the local legislators to drop the mask mandate. Granted, as a few other people have pointed out, it's an idea that could have a lot of unintended consequences, so probably best not used. It's also an idea that stems from frustration of being masked against my will. And as far as hair stylists go, I've going to the same group of ladies for 11 years, it would probably hurt me more than them to stop giving them tips as I know each of their stories personally.
Anyone notice the price of food is going up slightly. Mainly for businesses to just try and stay afloat?
Wanna bet they won’t go back down?
Not sure, but our crops didn't see a corresponding increase in price.
No argument there, and this is an idea I've mulled over for years as a "fuck you" to Democrat Districts when I travel, but never followed through cause I realize some of these people survive off tips.
I used to be a restaurant manager, you're only hurting the employees who now have less than half the ammount of tables they used to have. In many states like mine, servers/batenders make $2-3/hour + tips. Tips are what puts food on the table and pay bills for a lot of people.
I share your spirit for ending this bullshit, but this is not the way fren.
'Preciate the feedback! As I've mentioned elsewhere, I wanted to throw this out there to get some perspective from others.
As I've mulled this over off and on over the years, the idea of leaving a business card sized card stating why there's no tip was always part of the plan. But I've never acted on it cause I know these people are just trying to make ends meet, and also something like that gets you notoriety pretty quick, and I don't like spit in my food. haha
Almost every restaurant in my local area is still open, and I'd say about 90% of them have dine-in as an option. Economically, I'd say where I live has fared much better than a lot of the rest of the country.
Don't hurt the people who are already hurting the most.
This idea would imply that the government actually gives a fuck about the hard working service people; they will get their taxpayer checks regardless. Don’t punish those who are just trying to keep their jobs and feed their families- these are the “small guys” you are talking about. You want to do something like that then stop supporting big box stores and chains that pour that money into the commies pockets, don’t watch MSM ever, delete your social media, write letters to your local govt, etc. The service folks aren’t responsible for the masks, don’t do it.
Good input, I appreciate it. My wife and I are brainstorming some different angles to bring up during the city council meeting next week. As I mentioned elsewhere, this is something I've mulled over off and on over the years, but never acted on cause I know these people are just trying to make ends meet.
I totally get where you’re coming from, I just don’t think this is the answer. Unless of course your server is a Karen mask nazi when/if you aren’t wearing one. Then I would say it’s acceptable, just as bad service is an acceptable reason for a lower tip. Good on you for getting involved in your local council meetings. I’ve personally noticed that simply not wearing a mask propels others to take theirs off. The majority of the population hates them and is only wearing them due to social pressure. If everyone takes them off, what can they possibly do to enforce? What if you just start encouraging others to take it off?
Good feedback, thank you! I'm hoping that enough people will tell the town's elected officials to back off, but we'll have to see.
I hear ya. I’ve been skipping those things all together so not tip is in the cards anyway.
What I have been doing is tipping my garbage men with the tip I used to give the lady who cuts my hair. I simply cut her out of the picture all together. Pun intended.
You’re right, though. The idea that change won’t come with consequences needs to be put in check. I’m not sure the servers should be nixed, but the rest of your ideas are very reasonable.
For what places charge, for food out of a can, they can stand to pay a competitive wage. /talesfromyourserver sure wishes we were more like Europe but nobody tips there
