There’s a reason police call things like tasers “less lethal” rather than nonlethal. There’s also a reason less lethal tools aren’t substituted in situations calling for lethal options. The ability to defend oneself without causing harm to your perpetrator is only in the realm of make believe, the technology does not exist otherwise.
PS - Jesus said to sell your cloak, if you must, to own a sword.
"You have learnt how it was said: 'Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.' But I say to you, Offer the wicked man no resistance. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; if a man takes you to law and would have your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone orders you to go one mile, go two miles with him." Mt. 5.38-41
"you know the commandments: you must not kill..." Mark 10.18
No one is painting Jesus as a warmongerer. But Jesus was not a total pacifist either which old world Christians and yourself love to occupy yourself with.
You taking the downvotes so personally shows how weak-willed you really are. Not to mention going off the rails on your own short sighted and awfully narrow interpretation of events. If you want to leave, be my guest. But you are a coward.
I agree with questioning, but I don't agree with questioning that Jesus wasn't totally peaceful and nonviolent, especially in the way it's presented here alongside the other un-Christ-like rhetoric on this site.
And this is not just about one simple matter, it's a complicated, multi-factorial, long-going issue.
His instruction to carry a sword is metaphorical here, but it is certain that he is saying that they will begin to face opposition such as they have not yet.
This is a major problem people have with interpreting the Bible literally. I'm sorry, but this is just wrong.
Why is this stickied? Blasphemy. I'm sure many of you will attack me now and display more of your hypocrisy. Christian by name only.
Don't be a blasphemer. Not cool
This is the Lord and savior that always came to me in my dreams. He said

Sword is metaphorical in that passage.

Showing him with an AR-15 is blasphemous. Shouldn’t use the Son of God as a prop in a meme.
Don’t let the door hit ya where the Lord split ya!

The painting is another example of that.
