This doesn't mean he isn't coming back or that awful things may not happen before he does (just look at the last 2000 years of world history), but it's not true to the scriptures to say that Jesus' clear prediction of the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD is actually a prediction of a "Great Tribulation" that must happen on earth prior to his ultimate return.

Many read Jesus' response as being directed only at the final question about the end times. However, many of the terrible things Jesus predicts literally happened in and in the time leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD. This doesn't mean he isn't coming back or that awful things may not happen before he does (just look at the last 2000 years of world history), but it's not true to the scriptures to say that Jesus' clear prediction of the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD is actually a prediction of a "Great Tribulation" that must happen on earth prior to his ultimate return.
