Just your daily reminder that the second amendment lays out its justification within its own text. And that it does not regulate your ability to join a militia; it allows you to own weaponry so that a militia may be formed to protect the free state. Have a great day!
The reason the second amendment exists is because of the battle of Lexington and Concord where the British were trying to seize the arsenal of the colonialists so they could not resist. They recognized that the ordinary people had to be armed to be a check against government tyranny.
I once saw a movie where only the police and the military had firearms. Schindler’s List.
"Well regulated" means "functioning" from the time this was written. A compotent captain would have a well regulated ship, for example. The militia is just every citizen ready and willing to fight. In order to have a functioning population able to fight, the government should not restrict the ability of the citizens to arm themselves.
This makes infinitely more sense than when democrats pretend to be textualists and interpret well regulated to mean organized and policed by a large centralized government... Because that is literally what the founders just got done fighting.
In every state two types of militias are recognized as legal either by statute or its constitution. The organized militia, the state guard, (not to be confused with the National Guard) which is formed and funded by the state government and the unorganized militia, the one formed by ordinary citizens. Look it up in your state.
In the 1700s the term militia meant ordinary citizens not an army formed by the government . Progressives make the absurd argument that the second amendment only permits a state militia to bear arms. Either they lie or are ignorant of history. If only a state militia was intended to have firearms there would be no need to have a second amendment. It was a given an army formed by the state would be armed.
You can gather your friends and form a militia as long as its formation is not for an illegal purpose like to rob a bank.
The second doesn’t exist to allow you to hunt or to even protect your home from a nine invasion. Its sole purpose is to be a check against government tyranny. The first thing all dictators have down throughout history is to disarm the population to prevent any resistance to their tyranny.
Do these leftist ever stop to think that we the 50 million plus gun owners are the reason other countries dont mess with us. We have the greatest civilian militia army in the world
