“Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.”

Nehemiah 4:14 And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

Sig P320 with a Wilson Combat grip.

LocalMenace [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I like it personally. Especially because it’s “modular” and I can customize it to fit my ergo without the alphabet boys busting my door down.

I’d say you’d like the p320 but also keep it mind it’s lighter and shorter (my p320 is a compact @3.9” barrel) than the m9 so I think felt recoil and muzzle flip / reacquiring your sights for follow up shots will be much different than what you’re used to.

1
kanyewon 1 point ago +1 / -0

yessir i usually stick to single stacks for a solid grip. but some of these modulars are getting great with the ability to lessen the grip width/legnth. Hell even glock does it now. just not as good.

2
brassmule 2 points ago +2 / -0

You can get al you min ee umm frames for p320s now.

I personally don't own a p320 but I rented a p320c at a range a couple years ago and shot the hell out of it. Like 300 rounds in one range setting, couldn't put the thing down. They're great handguns.

2
BeekeeperAndy 2 points ago +2 / -0

Your main advantage with the M9 is accuracy and less recoil. Sig is the better firearm in my opinion though.

LocalMenace [S] 11 points ago +11 / -0

Magazines fail, whether they are polymer, aluminum or steel. When you have dozens of them, they can all blend together and many issues with your rifle can stem from an out of spec mag.

If your mag causes an issue, chuck it in the trash. Labeling them makes it easy to differentiate. But that’s just me, take my 2 cents and put it towards the bill if you want 😂

go ruger for mini 14, pay up the 30 bucks per magazine. no issue ever again. thing about the mini14's is u gotta get something 585 or later on the stamp (post 2005 i believe) so they are very accurate. and the ruger mags never, ever, ever fail . my child..... you should do this.

2
OldbreedAmerican76 2 points ago +2 / -0

The mini 14 has a special place in my heart, but the AR is superior in every way.

1
kanyewon 1 point ago +1 / -0

except for reliability, and the lack of being able to utilize a folding stock . 1moa difference doesnt make much sense unless ur talking sniper rifles lol.

1
OldbreedAmerican76 1 point ago +1 / -0

The AR is more reliable than the mini. And I never saw much use for a folding stock. You can't shoot with it folded. But if you just have to have one, there are folding stocks available for ARs.

1
kanyewon 1 point ago +1 / -0

They are more reliable especially when using factory mags. -- No AR15 can do this, a true, shootable, folding stock. The design of the AR makes it impossible. Collapsable yes, but not folding. VERY convenient :))) but i love ar's too . they are more accurate. enter text

1
OldbreedAmerican76 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm not trying to knock the mini 14, I've owned one for 25 years and I love it. But saying it's more reliable than the AR15 is simply not true. The action on the mini is a much more open design, leaving lots of room for grit and dirt to get in and cause a malfunction. There are good mags and bad mags for both the AR and the mini. Finding dead reliable, bet your life quality mags for the AR is not a problem. As for the folding stock, like I said I don't see much use in them. I can't think of a problem that a folding stock would solve. A collapsible stock is actually useful.

Looking for a belt/plate carrier like this - any recommendations?

5
LocalMenace [S] 5 points ago +5 / -0

Pictured is my Mayflower APC with a Haley strategic heavy chest rig out front. I would have gone with the micro chest rig but I got a deal on this one so I couldn’t pass it up. I recommend the mayflower but it’s pricer than many on the market rn.

2
General_Kek 2 points ago +2 / -0

How much is a good price to spend? Will it take the AR500 plate? Both front and back?

5
brassmule 5 points ago +5 / -0

AR500 plates are definitely very suboptimal. They are heavy and the spalling generated from taking hits will end up killing you anyway. Get a decent set of lvl4 ceramics like RMA, Hesco, or Guardian - multi-curve for your front plate, and single for the back. They weigh a ton less and the spalling won't murder you.

I shoot steel plates a lot at my outdoor range, and the wood frames are spaceD a foot or more away from the plates but they are absolutely torn up from bullet and jacket fragments. I don't want that going through my arms and neck.

2
LocalMenace [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Valid point, but you can also get steel plates with coating that limits spalling as well as putting them in a spall sleeve jacket.

2
mugwump 2 points ago +2 / -0

The coating doesn’t work as well as people pretend it does.

1
LocalMenace [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

True but you couple it with a ballistic spall containment sleeve. By the time the coating, sleeve and your actual carrier fail at containment, what would a ceramic plate look like?

1
mugwump 1 point ago +1 / -0

Probably still okay. Ceramics are crazy tough. Plus ceramics dissipate energy from the bullet that which steel just transfers. Also steel is Much heavier and good luck concealing it. My JPC with hesco 210’s fits under a zip up rain jacket no problem and can withstand a few 556 rounds, and was priced like the same as steel.

2
brassmule 2 points ago +2 / -0

There's significant debate about how effective that anti-spall coating is, but generally it has to be pretty thick to have a shot at doing it, and then you have to add the anti-spall sleeve, and then the trauma pad underneath the plate as well - which means you have an even heavier plate setup that is also even more bulky than a good ceramic plate. And all of that also makes them almost as costly as a good set of ceramics.

If steel plates worked, I think the military would be issuing guys with them since they're cheaper and last longer. But everyone is issued ceramic or ceramic/UHMWPE combo products as their front, rear, and side body armor.

4
LocalMenace [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

My mayflower currently has front and back AR550 armor from Spartan (10”x12” plates). It can also accommodate side plates as well.

Tbh man, get what you can afford. Supply is low and lead times are high from companies. Better to have something right now than top notch gear “en route”.

2
General_Kek 2 points ago +2 / -0

Valid point my dude, I’ll start looking

For reference my AR550 III+ from Spartan are rated to stop green tip 556 and even 30-06. Do I want to actually test that? No I don’t lol. But take it for what it’s worth.

LocalMenace [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Exactly, let the lab do it. Oh and uh, don’t forget to get trauma pads behind your plates boys 😂

3
Titan42 3 points ago +3 / -0

Geez that's a bulky plate carrier set up. Try a belt or a bund setup instead of plastering everything on your front side. I can't imagine you can run and shoot in that thing

2
LocalMenace [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

As I stated before I intended to get the micro chest rig but couldn’t pass up a cheap deal on the heavy. The med pouch is puffed up but compresses down to the depth of my pistol mags protruding. On the side I have swift clips which pull the rig tighter and prevent it from bulging out even further.

I’m not going to assume your physical prowess but I can indeed run with this set up. The rig is 26lbs, including two steel plates, all mags pictured are loaded with steel case, and an IFAK.

1
Titan42 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm more talking about how far the stuff sticks out on the front regarding running and then shooting (being about to swing your arms, rifle on you, bring the gun up and etc). But I do hear you on good deals aspect.

I wear armor everyday due to my job
