True but you couple it with a ballistic spall containment sleeve. By the time the coating, sleeve and your actual carrier fail at containment, what would a ceramic plate look like?
Probably still okay. Ceramics are crazy tough. Plus ceramics dissipate energy from the bullet that which steel just transfers. Also steel is Much heavier and good luck concealing it. My JPC with hesco 210’s fits under a zip up rain jacket no problem and can withstand a few 556 rounds, and was priced like the same as steel.
