It’s possible they could call it a recon flight but be doing some type of electronic surveillance or interference.

Yeah, the movie, "The Social Network" really glosses over the relationship then-Harvard president Larry Summers had with Facebook, instead portraying him as some dean that just waved off the Winklevoss twins when they objected.

If that were the case there'd be no such thing as strategic reconnaissance aircraft like U2 or GlobalHawk.

As good as the satellite cameras are, they're still relatively far from what they're photographing. Take a similar camera and put it relatively close to the target (i.e. at U2 or GlobalHawk altitude), and you're obviously going to get a better picture. .

I know at least 2 decades ago they could at least be able to read something the size of a license plate from those satellites

The issue is they have a window where they are useful over certain areas

That’s why U2s are useful, they can be sent to a particular place in a moment’s notice

And stay for a really long time.

And any military mobilization would immediately be on the news. The government can't silence the media to the same extent that it did during the Cold War, and even if it could, it can't effectively censor the internet.

Not for Trump. If Trump told them to hide troop mobilization, the media would make it the entire news cycle.

Uhh. If shit hits the fan, the media won't exist like it does today.

They could quote “Turn it off” without much difficulty.

Shut down the systems of Major ISPs and you leave the majority of the country blind and deaf.
