I don't see a civil war as a particularly bad thing, rather a temporarily uncomfortable thing.

You've clearly never seen a day of combat in your life, and that's not a bad thing. You would do well to try everything in your power to keep it that way, because every single day is a day where you will quite possibly not make it home to go to bed and wake up the next morning.
