Sara Conner. Tank Girl. Samus from Metroid. Wonderwoman. Jean Grey. Mystique. Catwoman. The Bride from Kill Bill. Clarice Starling. Disney princesses from back in the day. Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. All the females who survive in slasher flicks.

All female leads who don't come off as having gone 100k in debt to get a gender studies degree who exist to spread propaganda that the real enemy was patriarchy all along.

Agent Olivia Dunham from Fringe remains, imho, the best example of a strong female lead, because that is what she provides: leadership.

Like all leaders, she is not perfect, and like all humans, she suffered from occasional uncertainty and emotional distress. But through all that, she remained a leader, and people followed her not because the writers demanded it but because she had earned it.

Perfect example. And these other ones, they did not create a role as much as inserted a female into a role. Ripley was the role.
