I have a lot of thoughts about Star Wars. Shitting on TROS is a hobby of mine actually. Too many MacGuffin quests, JJ trying to rewrite LTJ and write TROS at the same time, destroying their cool villains by making them extra-lame and one dimensional, etc.

On the subject of Rey specifically, she had all the makings to be an interesting and challenging foil to Kylo Ren, who was burdened by his legacy, all while being equally burdened by her lack of one. Unfortunately, they cut the legs out of what could have been compelling character development and the entire fucking message of the story. So, instead of promulgating the idea that, "Hey, you don't have to come from a big, powerful dynasty, anybody—even a nobody—has the power to make a difference", they shit all over it and went, "Rofl, nope. She was Palpatine's granddaughter the entire. ayylmao."
