You need 50% of the vote to win outright. Otherwise there is a runoff between top 2 candidates on January 6th. Even if all of Collins’ votes went to Loeffler, there would still be a runoff.

So there was absolutely no harm done by Collins running. He has now endorsed Loeffler for the runoff.
