This makes no sense.. Is the wife an Illegal alien as well? If they are married and she is an American citizen then...well you know... He is also a citizen now, or were they just lazy and never did the paperwork?
Maybe only the husband got caught. If they're both illegals maybe they aren't exactly filing as married...or, ya know, filing at all. I really don't know, just guessing.

FYI marrying a US citizen, doesn't automatically make you a citizen, but it does make the process easier.
