Actually, there would be about five coallitions/parties in the USA if we had a parliamentary system.
Progs (which may be five small parties which will work together)
Liberal Dems (generally, what was the mainstream of Dem Party)
Central (NPP might join if there was a chance of represention in legislatures)
Republican
Libertarian
The PARTY system was unliked by the founders generally. They knew it would ossify into 'hard deposits' which end up with their OWN agendas superseding the will, desires and needs of the whole population.
More parties...less party power. Theoretically, better goverence.
